Back to School & The Allergy Checklist 101 Sep 6, 2010: Back to school season is here once more. It’s the season for books, pencils, pens, crayons, rulers, and homework assignments. The first day of school is a wonderful occasion as your child embarks on a new journey. But, if your child was recently diagnosed with a food allergy and they are starting school for the first time, it’s especially challenging when parents have limited control over what their child will face in terms of exposure to harmful or even life threatening allergens such as peanut, tree nut, and dairy or wheat allergies. Even veteran parents need to prepare and make sure they re-educate their child and teacher. With food allergies being so prevalent among children its especially helpful for a parent with a child starting school for the first time to meet with the teachers, nurse and school administrators to see if a generic food allergy management plan is in place. Here are some helpful tips that you can discuss during orientation.
