Explore The Sundance School’s Rainforest Rhythms Happening!
Saturday February 27th, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm
Imagine being a child who lands in colorful Oz or travels through the Wonka chocolate factory! Now, combine that with life lessons about our environment, the wonders of nature, and the thrill of discovery — that’s The Sundance School’s Rainforest Rhythms Happening!
For over 30 years, Sundance School founders, Jeff and Ginny Tobey, have created a special and magical educational environment capturing children’s natural curiosity and transforming it into a love of learning. The Happening is a culmination of the lessons that are taught throughout the year at Sundance. The Rainforest Happening highlights this year’s theme “The Earth is Good to Me,” in which the school weaved lessons about ecology and environmental awareness into the normal academic and creative arts activities.
Our Rainforest Rhythms Happening is a 4000 square foot virtual exhibition that simulates an actual journey through the rainforest. Children travel through the Amazon basin where they hear about the benefits of the rainforest from the oxygen it emits to the medicines produced from the many plant species. They learn about the various rainforest layers and about the animals and people indigenous to the rainforest. They also learn about the dangers of deforestation and extinction.
Exhibits include a base camp where the journey begins, a virtual ride through the Amazon basin, an exploration station with insects and animals from the Rainforest, a park where the children help clean up the environment, and a wrestling pit stocked with 20-foot anacondas (faux snakes, but don’t tell the kids)! There is also a hut to play native drums, face painting, and a play area. The journey comes full circle at the beautiful kapok tree in the middle of our exhibition, where children review what they’ve learned and also study extinct and endangered animals. You can see pictures and read more about the event by going to the following link www.thesundanceschool.com/rainforest .

About The Sundance School
Since 1977, The Sundance School has been providing a supportive, stimulating environment that captures a child’s natural curiosity and transforms it into a love of learning. Our unique, interactive curriculum wraps imagination and creativity around the educational process to foster confidence and unlock each child’s potential. Children also learn to share, respect one another, and follow directions in an environment that increases their communication and critical thinking skills. A student-staff ratio ranging from 5:1 for younger children to 7:1 for older children, assures plenty of individual attention. Programs incorporate literature, hands-on math and science activities, Spanish, cooking, computers, art, and physical education. Music, dramatics, and dance are also a part of every child’s experience culminating in two performances for family and friends during the school year. Sundance offers classes for children ages 2 years – 4th grade. For more information, please call us at 908-561-5055 or visit our website www.thesundanceschool.com . |
